For the City College of San Francisco Choir’s Winter Concert, I designed a poster inspired by childhood memories of crafting paper angels and snowflakes. I created a winter wonderland scene using different shades of blue to add depth and dimension. A stamped-texture typeface enhances the wintery feel, giving the design a cozy, handmade touch that evokes the warmth of the season and invites the community to the event.
Sketches
I focused on winter motifs and imagery when sketching out my thumbnails, ensuring the design stayed in line with the client's preferences. I avoided the elements they specifically didn’t want, while brainstorming ideas that would capture the cozy, winter atmosphere they were aiming for.
Iterations
I experimented with different background colors before deciding on white to keep the design clean and fresh. I also played around with adding music notes and lights in some of the houses, but ultimately removed them because they didn’t match the style of the winter wonderland scene. In the final iteration, I added texture to give the design a handmade, paper-like feel, enhancing its cozy, card-inspired aesthetic.
Final
During this project, I explored and applied Illustrator tools I don’t typically use, which expanded my technical skill set. I struggled with balancing the information layout to ensure readability while maintaining visual interest. Additionally, I faced challenges with printing texture issues, which required multiple iterations to get the best result, as the design looked different on screen. Despite the challenges, I’m pleased with how the final design turned out, successfully capturing the warmth and coziness of the season.
